PureRoller - Dermal Rollering - Treatment

Hello Lovelies,

Sorry it's been a while things have been rather busy:

But I am back....and with a slightly different angle. I recently got my dream job working for the company Dermapure who specialise in Cosmeceutical treatments and products. As I am in training a lot at the start of my job I thought I would share some of the treatments I have had done.

Last Weeks treatment was Dermal rollering. The concept is to run titanium needles on a roller over the skin to create controlled injury. Your skin then thinks it is injured and sends all the collagen, elastin etc to the area and starts to heal and rebuild the skin. Brilliant for evening complexion and amazing for acne scarring sufferers.

I had a 0.5mm roller** and i'm not going to lie it's not the most pleasant of treatments but it's totally worth it.

                                                                 Me with make up on

No make-up (eye make up left on)

They pull the skin taught and work over your whole face going backwards and forwards

You can work closely up to the eyes and lips without going over them

Instantly after - slightly swollen and you can see the redness, feels a bit tight but doesn't hurt afterwards

You can see the redness on my neck - for the rest of the day it felt like I had sun burn and was tender - this is a normal reaction

This was around 9pm that evening after i'd had a shower it brought some redness and heat back into the skin.

I'm a bit crap as I forgot to get a photo of the end result: I saw a definite difference in my skin, it looked firmer and clearer I would definitely recommend this treatment to anyone.

Good for:

- Tightening
- Evening
- Acne Scarring
- Anti-aging

Pros:

- No prepping
- Quick Treatment
- Little down time (time to heal) - On the day it was tender, next day it was fine =)

Have a consultation at your nearest clinic if you are interested

Lizzie

** This is Dermapure's version of the roller, there are other brands out there and all have their own protocols. The 0.5mm can be performed by a beautician and a 0.25mm can be used for home use. This may differ between companies/brands and you should always follow their guidelines and advice.

Exciting News!! 2014 the year of change!

Hello Lovelies.

WOW! I knew the year 2014 would be a year of change for me but I wasn't expecting things to change so suddenly and amazing changes happening too.!

If you read my last post you know the year started off with me and my long term boyfriend splitting up. Although initially it was hard I have really come into my own since. My goal was to really enjoy life and spend as much time with friends and family as possible, say yes to as many things as I could and get life experience.

I can honestly say I never thought changes would happen so quickly especially within my career. For the past 4 years I have worked along side DermaQuest, DermaPure and Youngblood products. They are absolutely amazing and it's no secret how much I love the company as I tell everyone even in my current employment who doesn't stock it. I have been lucky enough that for the past three years I have gone down to London to help the Dermapure team out with the ProBeauty event hosted at ExCel. I always have a ball and it's been great to get to know all the team and the other side to the company.

Last Wednesday I woke up to a voicemail from my local rep asking me to ring her, I did so and after I rang the CEO of the company to be told that the Northern Rep had handed her notice in and the job was mine if I wanted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can imagine my excitement and after listening to what the job entailed I accepted.

My whole career has been working up to this, my goal was always to have my own business or work for a brilliant company. Seen as tho I've had my own business and hated it this was my next target. I can't wait to start although a little nervous!

I believe life only throws at your what you can handle....and with my new mind set and lease for life i'm looking forward to the challenges it will bring, the experience and the next chapter of my life!

"Go confidently in the direction of your dreams and life the life you imagined"

Love to all

My nightime Skincare routine...

As a beautician i have a very thorough skincare routine. Yes i split my week into different skincare options to make sure i get everything in. So here is my Sunday, Wednesday and Friday routine.

I want to keep this blog real, and although i love seeing peoples make up and photos taken once we have spent a good amount of time getting ready, i also want people to know that we're all human, we do have skin without make up and that it's ok to post on here without it being 'perfect' so.....Here's me at the end of the day. I'd not slept very well, Shiny skin, in my pjs and hair scraped back.

I am currently using up the last of my Clarins, One step facial cleanser. This is a bi-phase product meaning its part water part oil. I am currently out of my eye make-up remover so using this gets all my eye make up off whilst acting as an all over skin cleanser. It's a nice product if you have normal-dry skin but as i have an oily skin i wouldn't purchase it. I use it on a night so that i could finish the bottle. This removes make-up really well. Just shake it to wake it and apply to a cotton pad and sweep all over the face. Perfect for people who don't have alot of time or people who struggle to remember have a skincare routine as it's quick and does both eyes and skin.

Next i sweep Clarins Gentle Exfoliator on a cotton pad around my face. This acts like a second cleanse too. This is a chemical exfoliator which means there are no grainy bits in it but simply either certain acids or fruit enzymes that munch away at dead skin (imagine pac man on your skin) This is perfect for people with sensitive skins, rosacea or broken capillaries as you're not scrubbing away at the skins surface. I use it as i get dull skin very easily. Simply leave on and continue with your routine.

I then tone with my Decleor Essential Tonifying Lotion. This product is beautiful. It smells amazing and really makes my skin feel lovely and soft. You can either apply by using your hands or a cotton pad then simply blot dry with a tissue.

I use this eye gel morning and night. It is Clarins Eye Contour Gel. The gel is the lightest formula as they also do it in a balm. My biggest problem is bags and dark circles under my eyes as i don't sleep very well. This is really soothing and dries really quickly which is perfect in a morning when im wanting to apply make up straight after.

If you can see the tiny amount i have on my ring finger. You only need a grain of rice size per eye. Too much eye cream can cause bags. Apply to the bones, so below your eye on the orbital bone, and on your eyebrow. Gently pat the product in. Dont rub onto your eyelids or close to the eye underneath, eye products migrate to where it's needed.

I finish off by using my Decleor Balm Esential neroli. This product is AMAZING! i used to hate the night balms as i have such an oily skin and the texture felt too heavy for me, but i used it for a week religiously and i am now hooked. There are balms for all skin types including oily. They work by drip feeding the skin all night with the ingredients within them. Decleor is aromatherapy so the skin really sucks them in. You wake up and your skin feels amazing. The balm essential is also fab for when i have break outs as it really heals them, if you have ingrowing hairs it helps to bring them out and when i have an allergic reaction to my threading it takes it away in two days. Everyone needs a balm essential in their bathroom cabinet!

The balm is solid in the jar so use your spatula (it comes in the packaging) to scoop out the amount you need. I used my fingers. The amount on my hand did my whole face and neck. Once you have the amount in your hand rub your hands together and it melts the waxes within the balm, it goes into a beautiful silky texture that i then apply everywhere but my eye area. It does leave a residue on the skins surface so make sure you're not sleeping on silk sheets on anything that oil may transfer onto. It's pure luxury for the skin and you notice a difference in your skin just after one application.

So there's my nightime routine for those three days. I don't change my routine massively on the other days but i do things differently. I shall do a post on those soon. I hope you found this interesting.

Mythbusters part II - Your beauty questions answered

Hey Lovelies,

So i'm bringing you part II of the Mythbusters series and today we're going to concentrate on body products and knowledge. So lets get going.....

If I exfoliate it will bring my false tan off?

TRUE & FALSE: When you have a false tan whether it be done at home or in a salon the best way to keep it looking nice it to maintain it. So yes unfortunately that does mean that after the tan is applied you're going to have to look after it. Your skin naturally sheds at different stages which means if you leave you tan to naturally come off you may find it goes patchy. If you regularly exfoliate - this doesn't have to be vigorous exfoliation just as long as you're getting the top layer of dead skin off, your skin will fall off more evenly keeping your tan more even for longer. Another way to hold onto your tan better is to moisturise regularly too. By doing these two things you actually keep the tan for longer.

I should shave/wax before putting on tan?

FALSE: You should always do any prep for a tan i.e. shaving at least 24 hours prior. When you shave or wax you open up the pores and the hair follicles, if you then apply tan you can run the risk of the tan getting into the pore/follicle and when these then close it traps the tan inside leaving lots of brown little dots on the skin. Not the desired look. Also waxing and shaving stimulate the skin, if you then apply a high chemical product such as tan you can cause allergic reactions within the skin.

My body isn't dry, i should still moisturise?

TRUE: Prevention is better than the cure, whether you are dry, oily or normal on your face or body you should always moisturise. The more you do it the better but at least aim for 3 times a week to try and keep the moisture levels high in your skin. The skin on our bodies goes through a lot such as hands in and out of water, feet in different shoes or no shoes at all, arms in and out of cold weather and warm clothing. Really make sure you concentrate on particularly dry areas such as knees, elbows, feet and hands.

I have cellulite there's no cure?

FALSE: There are different grades of cellulite from the odd bump here and there to a leg full of orange peel. Once it gets to a grade 4 it's hard to treat but there are some cures. Cellulite is fat cells that get trapped between sub-cutaneous skin cells (top surface skin cells) this then create the bumpy effect that we know of as 'cellulite'. The best way to get rid of cellulite is to detox, so increase your water intake to 2-3 litres a day and cut right back on all sugars, salt and high fat. If the cellulite is a low grade exercises can help. By toning the area you move the fat along. A great way is dry brushing the area and vigorously rubbing in special anti cellulite treatments into the area. The vigorous rubbing stimulates circulation and breaks down the fat deposits in the hope they'll be reabsorbed back into our system. You can completely get rid of cellulite but you have to work on diet, exercise and products.

I wash regularly but i still have spots on my back, this is normal?

TRUE: You can be the cleanest person on this earth and still get spots. If you get them on you back (known as bacne) it tends to be a hormonal reason. Just make sure you're rinsing your shampoo from your body correctly to not leave any traces on the skin. That after exercise or a hot day you're showering thoroughly - try using a back brush to really clean the area, and drink more water to try and flush the skin. All these put aside it's perfectly normal and you're not doing anything wrong. The sun can help clear up acne but please use the proper SPF, if it really bothers you go to your GP and see if they can  provide you with any treatments.

I shall be doing some specific mythbusters soon, such as one for nails, sun care etc please let me know if you want me to cover a specific topic.

Much love

SkinCare Mythbusters - True or False

Hey Lovelies, I got chatting to a client about advanced skin care today at work and it dawned on me that actually magazines, TV programmes and other marketing all print stuff about beauty and skincare that we instantly take for gospel, even GPs don't know true skin care - so here are my top myth busters of skin care, some or all of them you may already know but if not here are some real truths about skin and how to look after it.

You don't need to wear an SPF in the winter?

FALSE: No matter where you live in the world you should wear a minimum of Sun Protection Factor (spf) 30 in the summer months and a minimum of 15 in the winter months. Even if its bouncing down with rain or dull and cloudy UV rays still penetrate the atmosphere and still cause skin damage. The worst time to not wear an SPF is when it snows as the white snow reflects sunlight even more, causing the rays to bounce from the floor up to your skin back up to the sky causing even more damaging effects on the skin. Whether it's in your make up, moisturiser or a topical spf put it on EVERY DAY! You'll be thankful for that extra time in the morning when your a pensioner and have the skin of a 40 year old. Sun damage is the biggest cause of premature aging within the skin. So what's the best anti aging cream you can buy? An SPF!!

I have oily skin I can't moisturise?

FALSE: I made this mistake for many years. I have such oily skin, and I'm not talking I have to blot once a day oily, I'm talking within an hour/two hours I have to practically re-apply my whole make up. That is until I changed my skin care. The worst thing to do is deprive your oily skin of moisture you just have to make sure it's the right kind. Your skin is lacking water not oil. If you put water and oil into a bowl they separate and the oil floats on top. Same for your skin if you have excess oil it pushes the natural water away. Look for HYDRATING moisturisers and go for lotions rather than creams or an oily formula as these are light weight. Hydrating means water based rather than oil based. Give it time....I'd say anything from 2 weeks to a month. Use the product sparingly and I guarantee you'll see a difference. Don't get me wrong I'm still oily but it takes a lot longer for it to show through make up, my skin is in better condition and my make up goes on better.

There's a reason to have a separate day and night cream?

TRUE: No this isn't a marketing ploy from skin care companies to get you to buy more, there is a genuine reason for separate day and night creams. In the day we need a product that is going to protect us from pollution and the elements, provide spf, maybe be an antioxidant and provide moisture. In simple terms you need a product that is going to be active and fighting, but when we sleep our skin heals itself, provides new cells, new collagen and works within calm waves. You need a night cream that is going to aid healing and work gently within the skins natural rhythm at night.

If my skins dehydrated I need to drink more water?

TRUE AND FALSE: So this phrase gets said to me every single day and I repeat myself every single day. So yes if you drink water your skin will become more hydrated BUT what people don't understand is exactly how much water you have to drink for this to happen. When you drink water all your vital organs take it first, yes it will reach the skin but by the time it reaches the surface of the skin there's not much water left, therefore you wont notice a massive difference on the surface of your skin. To combat dehydration you need good hydrating products such as moisturisers or masks and a combination of drinking water too. To see a difference in skin you need a consistent 2-3 litres a day of the clear stuff.

Cleanse, Tone and Moisturise are the most importantly things in skincare?

FALSE: It has been drilled into us for years to cleanse, tone, moisturise and so people do this religiously without thinking about what they are doing. Yes cleanse to get rid of any make up, pollution and oil from the skin to create a clean surface. Yes tone as this gets rid of any trace of cleanser and allows better penetration of products. Yes moisturise as this keeps the skin feeling soft......What are you missing??? TWO key steps to a routine, which without these there's almost no point in toning and moisturising. They are Exfoliating and Serums.
Once you have cleansed your skin use an exfoliator to gently buff away dead skin cells and excess product revealing healthy skin underneath. Dry skins with no exfoliation have a build up of dead skin meaning when you moisturise you're actually moisturising dead old skin instead of the healthy skin underneath. A bit of a waste of product. When a client with dry skin asks me to change their moisturiser as its not working I always ask them to either start or up their exfoliation first, 9 times out of 10 that's the solution. Oily skins create a glue on the surface of the skin trapping dead skin, old oil and make up onto the skins surface this makes the skin look dull along with the risk of creating blemishes and blackheads. No matter what your skin type exfoliate once to twice a week NO MORE! Any more and you sensitize the skin. Do it at opposite ends of the week like Thursday and Sunday for perfectly fresh, clean and healthy skin.
Next use a Serum. Moisturisers only target the top layers of skin while serums work on the lower layers of the skin. They do this by being a smaller molecular size (the size of the ingredients are smaller so they can penetrate through the skin layers better) Our skin renews every 4 weeks (28 days), so what's at the top of your skin was at the bottom 4 weeks earlier. If we target the bottom layers we treat how it rises, so we want anti aging, healthier collagen, more elasticity, more hydration. Treat the skin before it comes to the surface.

I hope you learnt a little something or you finally understand why you are told to do certain things. I have much more information like this if you want to know more. Or if you have any questions feel free to leave them in the comments below and I shall answer them in my next Mythbusters blog.

Enjoy having amazing, healthy skin

Exciting Update =)

Hey Guys,

Just an update on my life and some cool news. Two years ago when i started my own business i was asked by the Skin care company DermaQuest to go work for them down in London for the Professional Beauty trades show at ExCel. I loved every minute of it. The Sunday is for trade only and the monday is for students and open public. People like Katie Price aka Jordan were there along with others such as Amy Childs. I was on products and had great fun chatting to potential clients about the products and the company. The company specializes in skin peels and advanced skin care which i'm really passionate about - so to ask me to come and talk to people about it all weekend YES PLEASE =)

I was very honoured to be asked to return last year - the stand was even bigger with more products, new science and technology within their products, the weekend is always tiring but it's an absolute blast.

You can imagine my excitement when i received a phone call on Wednesday asking me to return again this year. As there are thousands of beauticians in the industry for you to be chosen by a CEO to join a company and work for them is a massive compliment. So this February i'm going back down to the good ol Capitol London for the weekend. If any of you are going i hope to see you there, pop on over to the Youngblood and Dermaquest stand. I believe im on the Youngblood mineral make up stand this year - providing make overs and information on why mineral make up is the way forward. People like Kimberly Walsh use Youngblood.

I can't wait to learn lots of new things on this weekend and look forward to sharing my experience and new information on skin care with you guys.

If you have any questions you wish me to answer leave a comment below and i will. Here are a few photos from last year.

I'll keep you updated =)

night loves

Beauty sleep

So i'm not the worlds greatest sleeper. I work a ten hour day, i come home and i get on with chores and tea, i shower and then go to bed which normally consists of a good hour of watching my favourite Youtube gurus, pinterest and instagram. So when i actually close my eyes to go to sleep my mind is still buzzing.

The past two weeks ive made it my priority to get some good sleep. I've started drinking flavoured tea so help soothe me, i stop caffinated drinks after 1pm. And i'm taking the time to relax and unwind. It must be working as my boyfriend got a phonecall from work at 1.30am last night and i didnt hear it ring/him answer or get out of bed to take the call.

We all need a minimum 8 hours of good sleep. Especially this hectic time of year. Find what works for you. Take a nice bath, soothing drinks, read a gentle book and enjoy the benefits of good sleep.

Night night xx 💤💙
